Bandits Big Bats Destroy Sting Small Ball
by Staff Writer
December 14, 2003-On a Sunday afternoon tournament semi-final game, the La Costa
Bandits faced off against the Sting from Chula Vista. The Bandits came to the game filled
with revenge, as the Sting had beaten them in their most recent battle.
The home team Bandits immediately shut down the Sting with three up and three down in
the top of the first inning. The Bandits then jumped on the Sting with five runs in the
bottom of the first inning. From this point on it was all Bandits. With extremely solid no-
hit pitching by Kevin Lyle, and explosive bats by all the boys, the Bandits went on to win
the game in just three short innings. The Bandits MERCIED the Sting 15-0. As the
boys walked off the field you could hear the fans saying “now that’s how baseball is
supposed to be played”……..

December 14, 2003-After three straight victories against the Reds, Torres & Sting, the Bandits
advanced to the Tournament Championship game. The Bandits faced the Torres in what proved
to be a very competitive game. The battle was on and the score seesawed back and forth through
innings 1-3 and tied after the 4th. 'It was like watching a championship fight', said coach Jim.
The Torres scored a run in the top of the 5th. In the bottom of the 5th, the drizzle became
heavier, the stadium lights were on and it was bitter cold. The first two Bandits batters made
outs. Niko walked, then stole 2nd base. Two outs, man on 2nd, time for a two out rally. Evan
was at bat...then the lights went out! You're kidding me, no lights in the championship game?
The Championship Game was suspended until Sunday Dec 21st @ 3:00. The game will be played
on the same field in Escondido. The game will resume from the Bandits 5th inning with two outs,
runner on 2nd. Come early to cheer on your Bandits and keep them fired up as they pick up from
where they left off- Two Out Rally.
