Bandits Road Trip Winning Streak Continues
by Staff Writer
February 7-8, 2004-The Bandits packed their bags this weekend and headed east to
Ramona and Escondido for battles against two of San Diego County’s best 9u teams. In
both cases the Bandits came home with the victory.
On Saturday night, February 7th the Bandits dressed in their winter uniforms and prepared
for a cold evening under the lights against the Ramona Bulldogs. The Bandits sipped hot
chocolate in the dugout before the game agreeing that they owed some revenge to the
Bulldogs from their last outing four months prior. The Bulldogs jumped ahead 1-0 in the
first inning and the Bandits looked a little concerned. But this concern quickly subsided in
the second inning when the “Bash Brothers” broke out the bats and put the Bandits on top
with five runs. From this point on it was a question of how fast could the game be finished
so that the Bandits could pack up and head home in their warm cars. Heading into the last
inning the Bandits were up 8-1. The Bulldogs quickly loaded up the bases and it looked
like their might be a ballgame after all. But, Danny came in and struck out two batters and
Derek ended the game with a great catch at second to secure the victory.
Final score Bandits 8, Bulldogs 3.
Fifteen hours later on Sunday afternoon, at "Hobo Park" in Escondido the Bandits
prepared to face their arch rival the Escondido Hawks. Chanting “We are fired up, yes
we are fired up” the Bandits jumped ahead in the top of the first with two runs. The
Hawks responded with great hitting and four runs. The Bandits came back in the second
inning to tie it up, but again the Hawks pulled ahead with two more runs on even more
hits. The Bandits again scored another run in the third, but the Hawks continued their
hitting streak posting three more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Down by three runs
now, the Bandits were not concerned. They posted a single run in the fourth and Danny
finally shut down the Hawks bats in the bottom of the fourth. Knowing that they were
getting close to ending the game, the Bandits posted a run in the fifth inning, and AGAIN
Danny blanked the Hawks. Down by one run and heading into the last inning, the Bandits
were confident that they could still pull the game out if they could just put together a few
hits. Drawing on their experience and deciding it was time for a little “bat-around Bandits”
style hitting clinic, the Bandits answered with a total of eight runs and eleven batters making
a trip to the plate. The Bandits held on in the bottom of the inning to finish with a final
score of 15-11.
